Monday January 24th...it is a clear sky, bright, sunny day this morning.
Old Man Winter has definitely arrived in Downeast Maine, but then what should I expect, we do live in Maine. I must admit that I have never felt the frigid, cold wind like there is today. I now understand why Downeast Mainers say...you don't deserve a Maine summer if you can't live through a Maine winter. IT IS BRUTAL COLD. I am happy that our tithes and charitable contributions help the homeless and help buy fuel for the elderly and unemployed of Washington County.
Sunday January 23rd...We have had moderate temperatures until this past week-end. Yesterday, the temperature high was 8 degrees F.
Danny and I went for a ride to Lubec...cabin fever had set in and we needed to get out, open the sun roof to let the sunshine in for Vitamin D and enjoy the day. Coastal Route 1 was clear...graded, salt/sand, etc. The snow was piled high on the sides of the road and was pristine in the yards and fields. A beautiful sight with ice on the ponds and bays. We stopped at a local watering hole in Lubec, a Tavern & Inn on the bay, for Pizza and a beer. The view of the Lubec narrows was awesome and the cold wind was brutal. An awesome sight with the fishing boats/scallop draggers anchored in the bay...bobbing in the tide. I never tire of watching the sight. A very nice day.
The low temp. at 11:00pm, last evening, was -6 degrees, here on the hill by the ocean.
It is currently -3 degrees and windy at 8:31...today's high for Eastport is forecast is about 2-9+ degrees but feels like minus due to wind chill.
The next storm is due on Thursday January 27th...I will keep you posted.

January 2011
Monday January 3rd...back to school today and I decided that 6th grade discipline issues are creating too much stress for me. I left school today with chest pain and Danny took me to the ER in Calais . I underwent cardiac monitoring for 8 hours with a scheduled stress test in two days. I have decided to leave Eastport Elementary School and work part-time for the Quoddy Tides Newspaper.
Monday January 10th...I am enjoying my bookkeeping job at the Quoddy Tides. I am learning Quick Books 2010 and work from 10:00am - 2:00pm for 15 to 20 hours a week. I will walk to work, weather permitting and I am happy with the extra free time for home and hobbies.
Wednesday January 12th...the snow started falling about 11:15am and 20 minutes later we had white out conditions...we received about 8-9 inches of snow today.
Friday January 21st...a blizzard blew in today...I watched the snow begin to fall or rather blow, as I looked out my office window, over the breakwater. The snowfall gathered intensity and I left the office at 2:00pm amidst a drift of snow.

New Year's Eve 2010
New Year's Eve was spent watching a play, Short Takes. Afterward, a stop at the Rose Garden Pub to listen to music and have a glass of wine. We walked downtown to watch the Maple Leaf Drop at 11:00pm and then the Salmon Drop at 12:00 midnight to cheer in the New Year 2011. Our last stop was at the Happy Crab for a nightcap and talk with friends.
Happy New Year to all our family and friends.

Christmas Season 2010

We enjoyed watching the falling snow and decorating for Christmas.
It is an inspiring place to live and the holidays
take on a magical hue with the new fallen snow.

A Cup of Christmas Tea
December 18, 2010

We celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary on December 18th at the Nook and Cranny. Robert and Marilu, Steve and Tami, Cindy and Bob joined us for dinner to celebrate and we all had a very nice time. The food was delicious and laughter filled the air.
Thank you
Tami and Steve for a relaxing and enjoyable place to celebrate our special day.

We spent Christmas in Florida with my son Rudy.
We trimmed the tree on Christmas Eve.

Enjoyed dinner at the Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine,

Visited with friends at Dick and Charlotte's house, then went to midnight mass at Sacred Heart Catholic church.

Christmas Day was our leisure family time enjoying each others company and cooking dinner. We started with a morning brunch with mimosa's. We celebrated Christmas Dinner with a Spanish meal of Beef Tenderloin, Good Rice, 1905 Salad, Cuban bread and Sangria.

We returned to Maine on Monday, Dec. 27th. We landed in Bangor under blizzard conditions and spent the night in the Airport Hotel. On Tuesday, we returned home to Eastport via the airline road without any problems. Although, the roads in Calais were treacherous with ice from the previous day's sleet and snow.

It was great to see all our friends in Florida and to visit with Rudy. I miss my son and our weekly family dinners. I will work for plane tickets back and forth to see him and get a hug.

I do enjoy my home in Maine
and the friends that we have made....living our dream.
