Morning coffee on the deck.  Another sunny, glorious day.  Watching the birds feed and listening to their merry song.
Boats go out and boats come in...a morning ritual for the fishermen.

Tuesday July 10, 2012

Drinking coffee on the deck this morning before getting ready for another glorious sunny day with a gentle breeze.  Watching the boats go out and the boats come in.

It was time to stake the beans...the runners need a place to climb.  There are small yellow squash, tiny Scotia tomatoes and bush cucumbers are full of blooms.

Also have tiny peppers of different varieties.  Danny likes them hot but I like sweet banana peppers.

Scotia tomatoes staked front row, then kale  and back 3 rows are peppers.

I added some hanging flower baskets with my bird houses.

   Added a Welcome Summer Sign.

Added Janice's Garden sign....I need to scrape and paint the fence to finish the project now the garden is growing.

Monday July 9, 2012

My second week of retirement and so nice not to have a schedule.  Up at 6:00, the sun is shining, clear skies and 60 degree temp. with a nice breeze.

I went out on the deck with a cup of coffee in hand to watch the lobster boat loaded with traps go out to sea.  Then at 7:00, Danny and I went for a morning walk downtown along the water.  A leisure stroll, no shops open yet except for Dastardly Dicks coffee shop, Moose Island Bakery and Liberty Cafe Greek restaurant serving breakfast.

We opted to come home for breakfast and enjoy my own cooking...a bacon, egg and cheese on English muffin and a cup of tea.

Danny has gone to Calais to buy lumber to build me some flower boxes and I think I will bake some bread.

Life is good.

Herb Garden 2012

July 2012 Summer Garden is growing good - harvested kale twice.

The herb and flower garden.  I ran out of room in the vegetable garden and planted peas and beet greens with my salvia, lavender, rosemary, thyme, sage and mint.
Calendula and marigolds the deer won't eat.  The screens and tin plate with Irish Spring soap shavings are to protect from the deer.

June 2012 Summer Garden

Danny built me a potting shed.  His last day of work was June 11th.  He is officially retired and has planned projects for the summer.  Yeah!!!

I will retire June 30th from the Quoddy Tides Newspaper and my project is to paint the picket fence.
I planted Scotia tomatoes, kale, and assorted peppers in this garden, with herbs basil, dill, parsley and cilantro in the pots.
 The corner bed is strawberries.

The second bed has bush cucumbers, yellow and zucchini squashes, chives and Kentucky wonder green beans.
No garden is complete without some flowers and a pumpkin or two.

The beginning of a raised vegetable garden with picket fence to protect from the deer.

The finished garden fence.

Memorial Day ...planted the vegetables and grilled hamburgers.
 Love to plant flowers.

Monday January 23, 2012

It's another wintery day, cloudy, windy with a few inches of snow on the ground. I am looking out my home office window at the bare trees, the large maple swaying in the breeze. There is a fire in the stove and all is right in my cottage, here on the hill above the bay.

It's too cold to out to the workshop until I get a heater installed. So I will wait for warmer daytime temperatures and signs of spring. I look forward to starting some seedlings to transplant in my raised garden, that will go where the bench is sitting. Then put up a white picket fence around the garden to protect it from the deer. I think I will plant some blueberry bushes too.

Saturday January 21, 2012

A soft snow has been falling all day with a high temp of 13. It is about 3:30pm and still snowing. The clouds make it look later but sunset is @ 4:37pm today. The days are getting longer.

January 2 - 15, 2012

The first week of the new year brought frigid cold temp. and snow. The second week was more of the same but the snow melted with rain and left temps. below zero with highs in the single digits for a couple of days. The sea smoke was awesome to see in the morning at sunrise.

It has been a busy two weeks at work with all the paperwork for taxes, 1099's and w-2's in addition to my additional duties.

I am looking forward to retiring this year to spend time this summer in my garden, morning walks to the ocean, and the freedom to just sit and watch the boats come and go in the bay.

January 1st 2012

We had a leisure day at home and prepared a southern meal of black-eyed peas, baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens and cornbread. It is a traditional Tennessee meal since childhood that my Dad always stayed up until midnight and ate black-eyes peas to eat the old year out and the new year in for prosperity. Then we had ham and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day with all the trimmings, usually turnip greens and cornbread.

I called my son in Florida to wish him a Happy New Year and wish him the best for work prospects, health and happiness.

December 30th & 31st 2011

We traveled from Fleming Island Florida to Sanford Florida at 3:30am to catch our flight to Bangor. We landed in Bangor at 10:30, retrieved our luggage, ate some lunch and arrived home in Eastport about 2:30pm.

Dec. 31st...We attended a progressive dinner with a party of 14. We had appetizers at Ron and Jodie's house, then to Dan and Helen's for Cream of Mushroom Soup and to Sue and Basil's house for Caesar Salad provided by Glenna and David, then Prime Rib and Stuffed Baked Potato and the evening meal ended at our house with assorted mini desserts, coffee and tea. Wine, beer and mixed drinks at each stop and yes we had designated drivers.

After dessert, all left to the Rose Garden Pub & Restaurant for drinks and entertainment while waiting for the Maple Leaf to Drop at the Tides Institute about 11:00pm and the Salmon Drop at midnight.

Happy New Year!!!
