Monday January 23, 2012

It's another wintery day, cloudy, windy with a few inches of snow on the ground. I am looking out my home office window at the bare trees, the large maple swaying in the breeze. There is a fire in the stove and all is right in my cottage, here on the hill above the bay.

It's too cold to out to the workshop until I get a heater installed. So I will wait for warmer daytime temperatures and signs of spring. I look forward to starting some seedlings to transplant in my raised garden, that will go where the bench is sitting. Then put up a white picket fence around the garden to protect it from the deer. I think I will plant some blueberry bushes too.

A soft snow has been falling all day with a high temp of 13. It is about 3:30pm and still snowing. The clouds make it look later but sunset is @ 4:37pm today. The days are getting longer.

January 2 - 15, 2012

The first week of the new year brought frigid cold temp. and snow. The second week was more of the same but the snow melted with rain and left temps. below zero with highs in the single digits for a couple of days. The sea smoke was awesome to see in the morning at sunrise.

It has been a busy two weeks at work with all the paperwork for taxes, 1099's and w-2's in addition to my additional duties.

I am looking forward to retiring this year to spend time this summer in my garden, morning walks to the ocean, and the freedom to just sit and watch the boats come and go in the bay.

January 1st 2012

We had a leisure day at home and prepared a southern meal of black-eyed peas, baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens and cornbread. It is a traditional Tennessee meal since childhood that my Dad always stayed up until midnight and ate black-eyes peas to eat the old year out and the new year in for prosperity. Then we had ham and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day with all the trimmings, usually turnip greens and cornbread.

I called my son in Florida to wish him a Happy New Year and wish him the best for work prospects, health and happiness.

December 30th & 31st 2011

We traveled from Fleming Island Florida to Sanford Florida at 3:30am to catch our flight to Bangor. We landed in Bangor at 10:30, retrieved our luggage, ate some lunch and arrived home in Eastport about 2:30pm.

Dec. 31st...We attended a progressive dinner with a party of 14. We had appetizers at Ron and Jodie's house, then to Dan and Helen's for Cream of Mushroom Soup and to Sue and Basil's house for Caesar Salad provided by Glenna and David, then Prime Rib and Stuffed Baked Potato and the evening meal ended at our house with assorted mini desserts, coffee and tea. Wine, beer and mixed drinks at each stop and yes we had designated drivers.

After dessert, all left to the Rose Garden Pub & Restaurant for drinks and entertainment while waiting for the Maple Leaf to Drop at the Tides Institute about 11:00pm and the Salmon Drop at midnight.

Happy New Year!!!

December 2011 Christmas Day

Christmas morning we had a quick breakfast of biscuits and ham, coffee and juice then drove to Baxley Georgia to have Christmas Dinner with family.

December 2011 Christmas Eve

A wonderful Christmas spent in Florida and Georgia with family and friends.

On Christmas Eve, dinner with our son at Bonefish Grill in Mandarin, then to Dick and Charlotte's house to spend time with friends. Then farewells exchanged, home to change and attend midnight mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

November 2011

The month of November daytime temperatures are still warmer than usual and the grass is still green.

My son Rudy is here for a week for Thanksgiving and all is well and happy. We picked him up at the Bangor airport on Monday and the weather was nice and sunny.

Today is sunny and a beautiful blue sky morning. Rudy walked with me to work this morning and then he walked around downtown Eastport while I worked a few hours at the office. He came back to the office at 1:30 and we ate some lunch at the Happy Crab, then walked home to build a fire in the fire pit outside. The temp. started to drop as the sun set and we retired indoors.

It is Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, cold, rainy, such a change from yesterday. Snow is expected tonight.

Thanksgiving morning is postcard perfect with about 3 inches of snow on the ground. Got to get the turkey in the oven.

Dinner was delicious. Me, myself and I was in the kitchen today, preparing the Thanksgiving meal. Roast Turkey with stuffing, squash casserole, sweet potato casserole, cranberries, mashed potatoes, green beans and pumpkin and pecan pies.

October 2011

The month of October was splendid with the autumn colors of orange, yellow and reddish-browns. The apple trees are full of fruit and delicious after the frost.

The Perry Harvest Fair was on a cold, rainy Saturday morning but did not deter the community spirit. I purchased lots of produce and enough garlic to last the winter.

The daytime temperatures are in the 50's-60's and more the reason to love Maine.

The first snowed fell on October 31st but quickly melted when the snow turned to rain.

Pirate Festival

September weather was mild and warm daytime and evening temperatures. An evening whale watch aboard Bob Delpapas boat was awesome.

August 2011

His and her's workshops. Danny needed a workshop for his computer repair business with storage space and I needed space to be creative...arts and crafts. We also created an outdoor entertainment area with grill, fire pit, picnic table and wood chairs.
