Hummingbirds

Yesterday, I saw the hummingbirds flying around the flowers and immediately put up the feeder.

Hats-Off-To-You Luncheon

I had 5 friends come to lunch on Thursday July 15th.
It was a reconnect with fun and laughtershared by all.
I received rave reviews on the menu of fresh red leaf lettuce salad with feta, dill,
shredded carrots dressed with balsamic vinegar and EVOO, curry chicken salad sandwich, blueberry coffee cake, lemon curd tarts and lemonade iced tea.
It was a pleasure to prepare and serve a personalized lunch to my friends on a beautiful, sunny summer day.
I was busy serving, laughing and having fun, forgot to get the camera.

My new/old kitchen work table made the prep much easier.

The Garden

I stay busy with mowing the grass about every 5 days and working in the garden and my flowers. It is a joy to garden in Maine. Everything grows...just put it in the ground and water it frequently and it thrives and produces fruit. The squash and cucumbers have small fruit and lots of blooms and the garden tomatoes have large green tomatoes and blooms. The patio tomatoes have small cherry salad tomatoes and lots of blooms too. I will have an abundance of cucumbers to make pickles and preserve a few pints of tomatoes. Reminds me of growing up on the farm in Tennessee. Thanks goes to my mom for teaching her daughters to cook and preserve food and to dad for teaching us how to garden.

Evening Visitors

This mother deer and her twins have visited our yard frequently in the last month. I fenced off the garden after a tomato top with blooms was eaten. The flower bed violas were a treat for the deer too plus two pots of violas are missing flowers. These pictures were taken last evening during a misting rain.

Flowers, Herbs, Vegetable Garden and Yard

My herbs chives, dill, parsley, oregano, sage and thyme and and red leaf lettuce. Replanted annuals pansies, snap dragons, geraniums, marigolds and petunias.

Our Summer Garden and Fruit trees

I planted some tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, romaine lettuce, chives, green peppers, and hot peppers. It was a trial trying to keep the deer out, hence the fence. Then I planted marigolds to protect against bugs and was told the deer do not like marigolds either. Yeah!! Our fruit trees, pear tree and

Summer 2010

We arrived in Eastport on June 6th, a rainy evening, to our cottage that had survived the winter well. It took a few days to reclaim the yard that we had cleared previously, plant new flowers and create our summer garden.
