Looking at Campobello Island from our front yard.Today Danny received an email from the Canadian government official of St. Johns, NB. They would love for him to work as a teacher of the GED (high school diploma) on Campobello Island.
So how does he get there, you ask?
Well, it is closer by water (10 minutes across the bay from our house) or driving about 42 miles, from Eastport. To start, he has talked to a fisherman that will give him a morning and evening ride from Eastport to the harbor at Campobello(Welchpool) until Danny gets his own boat. Then Danny will drive to the fire station which has a classroom for the students. Danny is waiting for his LMO (Canadian work visa) and should start teaching on Monday, October4th. Hooray!!!
Danny will drive on windy winter days that it is too dangerous to be on the water. He would drive to from Eastport to Lubec and cross the bridge (check at Customs).
We made the trip by car on Sunday, Sept. 12th to check with the border customs official and obtained information for landing by boat vs traveling by car. Then drove to the fire station to find its location. Danny talked to some islanders at the fire station about the facility and introduced himself and his purpose for being there. He received a warm welcome and was told that nobody Canadian wanted to come there.
Then we drove back over the bridge into Lubec and had lunch at the Tavern Inn Restaurant.
